A canister vacuum can be described as having the motor and the suction head of the vacuum separated into two distinct pieces. Such design gives the suction head lighter and more maneuverable.
There are many different types of vacuum cleaners in the market and canister vacuum is one of the two most common types of vacuums, the other one is upright vacuum. The Difference Between A Canister Vacuum and An Upright Vacuum?
As we mentioned above, the canister and upright are two types of popular vacuum cleaner in the market. Upright vacuums stand tall and have a handle, which is used to push the vacuum while cleaning.
When cleaning your house, the debris is removed through the foot or base of the unit. Most upright vacuums come with on-board tools, which are typically used for hard to reach places or under the house furniture’s. This made the uprights versatile.
Canister vacuums are low to the ground vacuums that have a long hose with a suction head on the end. As you clean through the long hose and wand, you pull the canister unit (normally come with roller) behind you.
At one time, canisters were thought to be easier to use for cleaning hard to reach places and faster when cleaning a larger variety of floors surfaces including above floor cleaning. However, the uprights of today have added cleaning features, such as bare floor height adjustments, brush roll on/off switches, and are easily maneuverable.
Although uprights are lightweight and easier to use, they can still be a challenge when dealing with above floor cleaning and cleaning the stairs. Good quality canister vacuums can clean all types of surfaces to make your home clean and fresh. So, it depends to the individual preferences on which type of vacuum cleaner to buy.
Which Type of Vacuum is Better – Bagless or Bagged?
Neither type of vacuum is “better” than the other. A bagged vacuum will lose its cleaning effectiveness as the bag fills with debris. The bag must be emptied when it is about to full for the best cleaning performance.
For bagless vacuum, you don’t have to buy vacuum bags and that can be a money savings (in theory). But when the dirt chamber starts to get full you just remove it and dump it in the garbage. For some people this is really messy!
But most bagless vacuums have NON Washable filters that have to be replaced after certain time (normally once a year). But the cost of filters is more expensive than bags (for bagged vacuums). So buy a vacuum with WASHABLE filters.
For vacuum that uses bags, there is no mess when you go to empty your dirt as you just throw the old one and replace with the new bag. The only thing is that you have to continue to pay for the disposable bags.
You also need to alert when the bag getting full. Look for canister vacuums that come with bag full indicator to solve this problem. If you have Asthma or allergies I would suggest you get a bagged vacuum that has a good bag and a HEPA filter.
Anyway, the choice between a bagged and bagless vacuum really depends on your personal preferences.
